one of my heroes in the basketball analytics world is wayne winston, whose past work has done wonders for both the dallas mavericks and the advanced-stats community.
his blog continues to be most insightful and he will always be one of the leaders in the adjusted plus-minus stats movement that is gaining momentum … i learn sooo much from his work … at huffington post today, wayne gave his apm all-star team … and it was SPOT ON! … and i’m not just saying this because wayne included all 15 of my t.r.u.e. nba all-teammate picks that i made february 1, lol.
following are the 24 stars he picked … make sure to read his post, y’all!!.
western conference
centers marc gasol, nene & chris kaman; forwards kevin durant, dirk nowitzki, tim duncan & shawn marion; guards steve nash, andre miller, kobe bryant, deron williams & chris paul
eastern conference
centers dwight howard & brendan haywood; forwards lebron james, josh smith, luol deng, gerald wallace & chris bosh; guards dwyane wade, jamal crawford, ray allen, lou williams & rajon rondo
p.s. … oh! and for the record: 10 of his 24 adjusted plus-minus stars did not make the actual nba all-star team–so the nba owes some apologies to marc gasol, nene, marion, miller, haywood, smith, deng, crawford, allen & lou williams … hopefully someday soon, the coaches & public will catch up to this advanced world.
