people around the world ain't talked this much about heavyweights since howard cosell talked this much about heavyweights ... way back in time, like, in the '70s when frazier & ali & foreman & norton were rumblin' in jungles & thrillin' in manila & all that pugilist stuff. okay ... maybe i'm exaggerating. the '90s had some great heavyweight boxing matchups too ... but i've never seen this much heavyweight buzz on facetwittertube in either boxing or ultimate fighting (and, yes, i realize facetwittertube hasn't been around that long, people). first off, we had the man dana white's priceless twitter smile, which was a tweet worth a thousand words (or perhaps 70-plus) ... everybody's main man elie seckbach & his youtube videos aptly captured the emotion of saturday's strikeforce stunner (see below) ... and shane carwin's woman--mrs. lani alexander-carwin (happy anniversary to you two!!)--probably summed up the respect best on her facebook page: "Fedor is amazing. john hollinger had a great post yesterday at espn insider statistically ranking the greatest shooters in the nba since the 3-point line was put in during the 1979-80 season. which gives me the excuse to show one of my favorite nba workout videos of steve nash--who ranked #1 on hollinger's list--putting on a 20-minute shooting clinic ...

okay. his 7 bench presses at 225 pounds ain't gonna win any strongest man competition ... but nobody at the 2010 nfl scouting combine matched the atheticism numbers that fresno state's a.j. jefferson posted tuesday. nobody. in fact, if the nfl gave out olympic gold medals for this 4-day foray, a.j. would HAVE to be the winner ... his 44-inch vertical jump was the official best leap of anyone at the combine ... his 20-yard shuttle (4.00) and 60-yard shuttle times (11.04) were the best marks again of anyone at indianapolis (according to the postings at the nfl.com site) ... and his 4.43 40 time, official 10'6" broad jump & official 6.72 3-cone drill time were all top 5 amongst cornerbacks. originally projected as a late-round nfl draft pick at best, a.j. just did an air jordan leap up the draft ladder ... he may even be a mid-round pick now. and remember 2 days ago when i wrote "ryan mathews & fresno state bulldogs rip up nfl combine" with fresno state players putting up amazing numbers all across the board? ... now you tack on a.j.'s performance on top of that showing and it's even more impressive ... a db with a 44 ...

fresno beach fave ryan mathews has the buzzzz at the 2010 nfl scouting combine after running a 4.45 40 and benching 225 pounds 19 times sunday. might even go to the san diego chargers at pick #28 ... who knows? check out this nfl.com vid of run ryan run at the combine in indianapolis. and congrats too to fellow fresno staters lonyae miller, who was a beast of a man benchin' 225 26 times (tying for best among all running backs) while runnin' a 4.53 40 ... and to robert malone as well after benching 225 19 times ... WOW!! ... next best punter had 16. i got no 40 times yet on seyi ajirotutu & chastin west, but they got 14 & 15 reps respectively on the bench press ... a.j. jefferson goes tuesday. [update1: seyi had a 4.53 40 time while chastin had a 4.54 40 ... here's audio of a blog talk radio on-location interview with the two bulldog receivers] [update2: well, a.j. jefferson just completed his combine tuesday and only had the best performance of any nfl player in this whole 4-day competition, lol. the "project air" surf team has been fun to follow on their blogs that explain what the red bull coaches are doing to help make their elite athletes even eliter. no need to lookitup. it's a word. trust me. ;) in lennox head at northern nsw, australia, some of the top names from mick fanning & sofia mulanovich to young stars jordy smith & sally fitzgibbons are "expanding, honing & defining their aerial repertoires with the assistance of coaches, skateboarders & gymnastic facilities." it's cool to see them challenged ... especially when they go back in time and surf on the 1978 pipe weapon, like in this vid here ... ... photo by red bull

now that surfing's princess carissa moore is officially on the asp scene, she is revealing more about herself on her blogs of late ... or as surfing magazine points out in a recent post, she's keeping it real. on recent posts, the 17 year old deals with wanting to get more fit and a recent visit to nutrionist lisa stewart. only 13 more days til the roxy pro when carissa makes her asp debut ... it'll be interesting to see if everybody's rookie of the year pick is able to take it to that nextlevel ... last year's top rook coco ho finished 4th on the 2009 asp season ... i'm guessing carissa can go top 3 in 2010! ... photo by peter taras / surfing magazine

what a month for mindi smith, who won npc sacramento november 7 and then topped herself by winning 2009 npc nationals overall this weekend and getting her pro card. mindi told flex: "This was my first national show and it worked out perfectly.
